Have you seen the Louis Vuitton $8,000 sweater?
Attached is a link to the New York Post article and pictures. https://nypost.com/2021/02/10/louis-vuittons-8k-puppet-sweater-has-people-all-up-in-arms/
I know, it looks hilarious and its 8K.
Yes, it resembles a toy chest. Yes, it looks like Muppet Babies threw up on a sweater.
I especially like the frog on the shoulder, it's like Kermit is sipping his tea.
What about the monkey face down on his back? Can't get the monkey off your back?
See the fashionable one in the front, how come they get the hat and scarf?
What about what looks like a drugged out big bird with the red eyes.
All true statements. I even asked my nieces and nephews their thoughts and they loved this sweater. They were like does it come in kids sizes. So it does have some widespread appeal but did you realize it was a social commentary.
This sweater is part of Virgil Abloh's latest collection. I like Virgil Abloh's designs despite some of his verbal missteps (See: looting and a $50 BLM donation) SIGH! Have you seen Off-White? I want every single item! I went to see his exhibit at the MCA in Chicago, I could only afford a pin but I still have it. I say all that to say, he puts thought into every design, he designs with a purpose. So, what might be the thought and purpose behind the use of the muppet reunion pieces?

Well, I think, it's an homage to Lady Gaga who wore the Kermit-the-frog outfit in 2009. We will get into why she wore this outfit in a moment.
Secondly, LVMH (parent company to Louis Vuitton) came under fire for their use of fur and leather. LVMH states their animal biproducts are ethically obtained, but PETA doesn't agree and as early as a month ago continues to write articles about LVMH. They urge the switch to vegan leathers/furs, as their was no way to concretely tell whether animal biproducts are ethically obtained.
I think, both Lady Gaga and LVMH share political agendas. What's a way to bring awareness to fur bans without actually wearing fur? Why not stick animals all over the garment. Let's make them cute and beloved creatures like Kermit the frog. It shows their thoughts of absurdity around the entire conversation. Not only will we continue to wear and use animals, we will use even the Muppets to create our fashion. Lady Gaga has gone so far as to wear a meat dress made out of actual steaks, but you get the picture.
In other words, we will make what we want without your social commentary. I find it amusing their priced the sweater/coat at the same price as their actual furs. Here PETA is a sweater you might approve of... lol
I will say, I do wear and use leather products, and I have worn fur. I also own vegan products and eat a primarily plant diet. I am on neither side of the issue, but I can enjoy the cheap fodder between the two giants.
Do you support LVMH and their supposed stance to make clothes out of whatever they see fit?
This sweater is made to order. Will you be getting one?
